In the early morning hours of October 1, 2022, Bryan Harrell Sr., a 43-year-old male, was enjoying a late-night barbecue on the sidewalk near 565 Chili Avenue in Rochester, New York. It was around 3 a.m., and while some people were gathered around a bonfire nearby, Harrell was tending to the grill. Suddenly, the peace of the night was shattered by the sound of multiple gunshots.
One of the bullets fired struck Harrell in the upper body, inflicting a fatal wound.
First responders arrived at the scene and immediately began life-saving efforts, but tragically, their attempts were in vain. Bryan Harrell Sr. was pronounced dead at the scene. His death marked the 64th homicide in the city of Rochester that year.
The Rochester Police Department's Major Crimes Unit launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. The area around Chili Avenue was cordoned off for hours as investigators processed the scene, gathering evidence and speaking to potential witnesses. Despite the presence of other individuals at the time of the shooting, investigators have stated that there are people who were there that night who know who the killer is but have not come forward. To date, the investigation remains open and ongoing. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Bryan Harrell Sr. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing justice for the Harrell family.
