On the evening of July 24, 2025, 24-year-old Markis Ortiz-Harris sat in his car in the parking lot of Amazon's ROC1 fulfillment center on Manitou Road in the town of Gates, just outside Rochester, New York, waiting for his shift to begin. A man walked up to the vehicle around 5:45 p.m. and opened fire. First responders rushed 24-year-old Markis Ortiz-Harris to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police said there was no indication the shooter worked for Amazon.
