In the early morning hours of a mid-October day in Queens, New York, a celebration turned into a scene of tragedy. Nicholas Mahabir, a 32-year-old man, was with friends outside the Blend Lounge in Richmond Hill, continuing the festivities for his belated birthday. At approximately 4:15 a.m. on October 17, 2022, the celebratory atmosphere was shattered by the sound of gunfire.
Amid the chaos, Mahabir was struck by bullets in both of his arms.
One of the bullets tragically traveled through his torso, inflicting fatal wounds. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and he was transported to a nearby hospital where, despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead. It is believed by his family that he was an innocent bystander, not the intended target of the shooter.
In the wake of the shooting, the New York Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Another man, aged 27, was also shot and injured during the incident but was reportedly uncooperative with the authorities. As part of their investigation, the NYPD released surveillance footage showing a man they believe to be the suspected gunman. In the video, the individual can be seen extending his arm and opening fire.
Despite the release of this footage and appeals to the public for information, the suspect has not been identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Nicholas Mahabir.
