In the late hours of a cold December night in the Bronx, a dispute outside a local bar turned deadly, leaving a 42-year-old man, Jeffrey Pierre, fatally wounded. The incident unfolded just before midnight on Thursday, December 22, 2022, on White Plains Road in the Wakefield section of the borough.
Officers from the 47th Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting and discovered Pierre with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and transported him to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
According to police reports, Pierre, a Black male, had been involved in an argument with another individual when an unknown gunman approached and opened fire. The assailant then reportedly fled the scene in a gray vehicle. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities have not released a motive for the killing and it is unclear if there was a connection between the gunman and the person with whom Pierre was arguing. Police have released images of a person of interest and are asking for the public's help in identifying the individual.
Interestingly, this was not Pierre's first encounter with violence. In an unrelated incident in May 2014, he was involved in a fatal shooting where two men were killed during an alleged carjacking attempt. Pierre was initially charged in their deaths but was later acquitted of the murder charges, though he was convicted of gun possession and served time in prison. He was paroled in May 2021, a little over a year and a half before his own untimely death.
