In what was described as a quiet Rockwood, Michigan community, a tragic event unfolded that ended the life of 43-year-old Kristina Colangelo. On May 17, 2021, concern grew when Colangelo failed to pick up her son from school. This uncharacteristic absence prompted her mother to check on her, leading to a grim discovery at her home.
Upon entering the residence, Colangelo's mother found her daughter and her live-in boyfriend, 53-year-old Michael Piazza, deceased.
The Brownstown Township police were immediately contacted and began their investigation. It was determined that Colangelo had been shot three times in the head by Piazza, who then used the firearm on himself in a murder-suicide.
Investigators learned that the couple had been living together for approximately three years. While there were no prior police reports or documented domestic disturbances at their home, family members indicated that Colangelo had recently spoken about ending her relationship with Piazza. The Michigan State Police Crime Scene Unit assisted local authorities in processing the scene.
