In the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, on a Friday afternoon just before Christmas, the life of 40-year-old Elgin Reynolds was brought to a violent and sudden end. It was around 12:15 p.m. on December 23, 2022, when a confrontation unfolded on 165th Street. An assailant, armed with a firearm, approached Reynolds. In an attempt to save himself, Reynolds turned to flee, but his efforts were in vain.
The gunman opened fire, striking him in the leg, torso, and face.
Emergency medical services arrived at the chaotic scene and rushed Reynolds to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal. The brazen daylight shooting, which occurred in a busy retail area filled with holiday shoppers, left the community in shock. The gunman, described as a dark-skinned man between 40 and 45 years old, standing about 6-foot-1 and weighing around 180 pounds, made a quick escape. He was last seen wearing a green jacket, green pants, brown boots, and a black du-rag.
The assailant fled north on 165th Street before getting into a white sedan and disappearing from the area. Despite clear surveillance footage of the suspect which the NYPD released to the public, no arrests have been made in the case, and the gunman remains at large. While police investigations revealed that Elgin Reynolds had a history of arrests related to drug possession and sales, it is not yet known if his past was connected to his murder. The New York City Police Department continues to seek information from the public to bring the person responsible for this brazen killing to justice.
