On a winter evening in the Bronx, a burst of gunfire shattered the relative calm at the intersection of East Tremont Avenue and Southern Boulevard. When the chaos subsided, four men were suffering from gunshot wounds. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, would prove fatal for one of them. Gregorio Alvarez, a 28-year-old male from Queens, was struck in the chest by the gunfire.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and transported Alvarez to St.
Barnabas Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced deceased. The three other victims of the shooting, a 27-year-old man shot in the leg, a 46-year-old man shot in the torso, and a 25-year-old man shot in the arm, were all transported to the same hospital and were listed in stable condition.
The investigation into the shooting was handled by the 48th Precinct. In the course of their investigation, a suspect was identified and apprehended. Cristian Blancomejia, a 28-year-old resident of the Bronx, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. He was subsequently charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a loaded firearm. The investigation into the incident was reported to be ongoing.
