In the spring of 2017, a family's desperate search for a missing young man came to a tragic conclusion in New Orleans. Joseph Michael Consonery, a 22-year-old male, had vanished, leaving his loved ones in a state of anxious uncertainty. He was last seen on April 17 at his girlfriend's home in the 4800 block of Touro Street. After that day, all attempts by his mother to reach him on his phone were unsuccessful.
Two days later, on April 19, she officially reported him as a missing person, hoping for his safe return.
Those hopes were shattered on the evening of Sunday, April 30, 2017. In the 7th Ward, a grim discovery was made in the 1700 block of Allen Street. A body had been found concealed within a storm drain. It wasn't until a few days later that the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office would publicly confirm the fears of the Consonery family. The deceased was identified as Joseph Consonery.
The coroner's investigation revealed a violent end to the young man's life. An autopsy determined that Joseph Consonery had died from a gunshot wound. His death was classified as a homicide. At the time of the discovery and the subsequent identification, law enforcement had not made any arrests in connection with the case.
