On May 28, 2016, a verbal argument between Harald Martinson, a 35-year-old White male, and his girlfriend spiraled into a fatal encounter in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Martinson, who was known to friends and family as "Marty," was shot and killed by his girlfriend, Jennifer Jean Pendias. The couple had been together for two to three years and lived together at Pendias's apartment on Shepherdstown Road, the scene of the shooting.
