Green, an IT professional working for a national security contractor, was driving his black Cadillac DeVille near his home in the Capitol Heights, Maryland area. Barnabas Road and Virginia Lane in Oxon Hill, a masked gunman approached his vehicle and opened fire.
The assailant, wearing a black hooded jacket, fired nine shots into the driver's side of the car, striking Green multiple times in the head. The gunman then fled the scene on foot. The brazen nature of the attack during rush hour traffic, with multiple witnesses present, was particularly troubling to investigators. Despite the public setting, the suspect's disguise left police with only a vague description. No attempt was made to rob Green or steal his vehicle, suggesting a motive other than random violence.
