Marcel Dessin, a 22-year-old Black / African American male, was driving home after a night out with friends when his vehicle was met with a spray of bullets from another car. The incident occurred on November 24, 2008, as he was leaving the parking lot of a nightclub. The shots proved fatal for Dessin, the son of a retired Washington D.C.
police officer.
By all accounts, Marcel was a hardworking and well-regarded individual, holding down two jobs. His death sent shockwaves through his community and left his family devastated. In the immediate aftermath and for years to come, his mother, Tanya Jones, and his father, a veteran of the police force, have tirelessly sought justice for their only son.
