In the early evening of a Tuesday in Capitol Heights, Maryland, a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal encounter, claiming the life of 31-year-old Donte Young. On August 13, 2019, officers from the Prince George's County Police Department were dispatched to the 5800 block of Folgate Court around 6:50 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Young outside a residence, suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was urgently transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a domestic-related argument as the catalyst for the violence. Detectives determined that the incident was not a random act of violence. The preliminary investigation revealed that Donte Young, a resident of Waldorf, had been engaged in a heated argument with another man at the Capitol Heights location just before the shots were fired.
Within a short period, authorities identified 25-year-old Daquan Odemns of Capitol Heights as the suspect in Young's death. Further investigation revealed that Odemns was in a relationship with Young's estranged wife, and the fatal argument had erupted between the two men. Following the investigation, Daquan Odemns was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Donte Young. He was taken into custody and held without bond.
