On the evening of March 8, 2017, the life of 31-year-old Timothy Wimbush of Southeast Washington was tragically cut short in a parking lot in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Just hours after receiving a hopeful job offer from Home Depot, a promising new chapter for the father of eight was abruptly ended by gunfire. A citizen discovered his body in the 5200 block of Marlboro Pike at approximately 11:25 p.m. and flagged down a patrolling police officer.
Wimbush was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sudden and violent nature of his death sent shockwaves through his family. His mother, Willow Wimbush, expressed her profound grief, stating, 'you not only killed him you killed all of us.' His fiancée, Tazzley Hayes, was left to care for their 3-month-old son, the youngest of his children. She recalled his excitement about the new job and the devastating shock of receiving the news of his death. Known as 'lil tee,' Wimbush was also a rapper with two CDs, and his mother fondly remembered listening to his music constantly in the months leading up to his death.
The investigation into the homicide led Prince George's County police to a suspect. Kevin K. Fleming Jr., a 27-year-old from Capitol Heights, was arrested and charged with first and second-degree murder in connection with Timothy Wimbush's death. Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the two men. Following his arrest, Fleming was held without bond.
