On the night of May 30, 2011, in Capitol Heights, Maryland, 28-year-old Anthony Stevens McKelvin, a male resident of Suitland, was found deceased alongside his 24-year-old cousin, Sean O'Neil Ellis of District Heights. The two men were discovered inside a vehicle on Rollins Avenue, both having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The ensuing investigation by the Prince George's County Police Department revealed a grim scene.
The bodies of McKelvin and Ellis had been doused with bleach and gasoline, a failed attempt by the perpetrators to destroy evidence. The motive for the double homicide was determined to be robbery.
Authorities identified two suspects in connection with the murders: Brian Mayhew and Kenan A. Myers. The investigation took a dramatic and tragic turn when a key witness, Nicoh Mayhew, who was Brian Mayhew's uncle, was murdered in December 2012, shortly before he was scheduled to testify against his nephew. Prosecutors asserted that Brian Mayhew had ordered the killing from jail to prevent his uncle's testimony.
In February 2014, a Prince George's County jury found Brian Mayhew guilty of first-degree murder in the deaths of Anthony Stevens McKelvin and Sean O'Neil Ellis. He was subsequently sentenced for his role in the double homicide. Following this conviction, Mayhew also faced trial for orchestrating the murder of his uncle.
The second suspect, Kenan A. Myers, was accused of being an accomplice in the double homicide. However, when his case went to trial, he was acquitted of the charges.
