In the early morning hours of February 4, 2013, the body of 20-year-old Salaam Adams, a male resident of Durham, North Carolina, was discovered in Oxon Run Park in Hillcrest Heights, Maryland. At approximately 7:25 a.m., Maryland-National Capital Park Police responded to a call about a man down in the 2600 block of Oxon Run Drive. Upon their arrival, officers found Adams in an open area of the park with an apparent gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Prince George's
County Police Department's Homicide Unit promptly began an investigation into the death of Salaam Muhammad Adams. Within days, their investigation led to a suspect. On February 7, 2013, police announced the arrest of 26-year-old Brandon Anthony Battle of Greenbelt. Battle was taken into custody and charged with first and second-degree murder in connection with Adams' death. Following his arrest, he was held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
Salaam Adams was born on September 3, 1992, in Durham County, North Carolina, to Floyd Anthony Adams and Rowena Weathers Adams. He was known to be a fun-loving and respectful young man who enjoyed writing his own rap music. His funeral services were held on February 16, 2013, at Bell Yeager Freewill Baptist Church in Durham.
