In the midst of New Year's Day celebrations in 2014, a tragic event unfolded on the streets of West Baltimore, forever altering the lives of one family. Frank Anthony Turner, a 48-year-old male, was gunned down in broad daylight alongside his 21-year-old son, Anthony Dionne Turner. The father and son were walking on the sidewalk in the 3900 block of Edmondson Avenue when they were fatally shot.
Both men were rushed to a nearby hospital, but their injuries proved too severe, and they died within 15 minutes of each other.
The brazen double murder, which marked the first homicides of the year in Baltimore, left the community stunned. Family members revealed a chilling precursor to the deadly shooting, stating that Frank Turner had been attacked and stabbed by three individuals the night before his death, suggesting he may have been targeted. Friends and family remembered Frank as a kind and beloved figure in the neighborhood, expressing their disbelief and profound grief over his violent end. The incident prompted a noticeable police presence in the area as detectives began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the senseless killings.
For more than two years, the case remained a painful open wound for the Turner family as the perpetrator remained at large. Then, in a significant breakthrough, the Baltimore Police Department announced an arrest in August of 2016. Homicide detectives identified 27-year-old Jamal Dunn as the suspect in the murders of Frank and Anthony Turner. Dunn was apprehended on North Hilton Street and subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Following his arrest, he was held without bail, bringing a measure of hope for justice to a family still grappling with an unimaginable loss.
