In a quiet Parkville, Maryland neighborhood, a tragedy unfolded that cut short the life of 15-year-old Molly Mendoza. On April 10, 2015, Molly, a female ninth-grader at Loch Raven High School, was found deceased in her family's home on Cromwood Road. The discovery was made after her mother, 40-year-old Vedrana Mendoza, failed to report for her job, prompting a concerned employer to request a welfare check.
Upon entering the residence, Baltimore County police officers discovered a grim
scene. Molly was found in her bed in a second-floor bedroom, having sustained a single gunshot wound. In a first-floor bedroom, her parents, Vedrana and 50-year-old Gilbert Mendoza, were also found deceased. Vedrana had suffered multiple stab and gunshot wounds, while Gilbert had multiple stab wounds and a single gunshot wound. Investigators recovered a knife and a gun from the home.
The investigation concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide orchestrated by Gilbert Mendoza. Detectives determined that Gilbert shot and stabbed his wife and then shot their daughter before taking his own life. While the exact reasons for this tragic event remain unclear, the investigation revealed that the family had been facing financial difficulties. Court records indicated that their home had been foreclosed on in the December prior to the incident. Neighbors described the Mendozas as a 'tight-knit' and quiet family who had lived in the neighborhood for over 15 years, expressing shock and sadness over the violent end to their lives. One neighbor recalled seeing Gilbert and Molly playing badminton outside just the day before the incident.
Since the perpetrator, Gilbert Mendoza, was also deceased, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Molly and Vedrana Mendoza. The case was closed as a murder-suicide, leaving a community to mourn the loss of a young life filled with promise.
