In the early morning hours of September 15, 2015, the quiet of a New Carrollton neighborhood was broken by a grim discovery. A 36-year-old male, Darius Edward White of Accokeek, Maryland, was found lying outside a residence in the 5400 block of 85th Avenue. Responding to a call about a man lying on the ground, New Carrollton Police officers arrived at approximately 2:45 a.m. to find White suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Prince George's County Police Department quickly took over the homicide investigation. Detectives began working to piece together the events that led to White's death, stating that their preliminary assessment suggested the shooting was not a random act. In an effort to generate leads, a substantial reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that could lead to an arrest and indictment in the case.

Despite the active investigation and the significant financial incentive for information, the case has grown cold over the years. Law enforcement officials urged the public to come forward with any details, no matter how insignificant they might seem. Callers were given the option to remain anonymous by contacting Crime Solvers. To date, there has been no public announcement of any arrests made or suspects identified in the fatal shooting of Darius Edward White, leaving his case an unsolved homicide. The motive behind the shooting also remains unclear to the public.
