On the evening of November 20, 2016, in Laurel, Maryland, a violent encounter led to the death of 46-year-old Gregory Myles of Fort Washington. The incident unfolded inside a residence in the 13200 block of Deerfield Road, where police responded to a report of gunshots around 9 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Myles inside the home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly identified the suspect as Alvin Vaughn, a 41-year-old man of no fixed address. The investigation revealed that Myles and Vaughn were acquaintances and that an argument between the two had escalated, leading to the fatal shooting. Vaughn was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He was held in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
Court records from 2020 indicate that Alvin Donnell Vaughn was convicted by a Prince George's County jury in 2018. His convictions included first-degree murder, home invasion, use of a handgun in a crime of violence, committing a violent crime in the presence of a minor, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, and possession of a firearm with a felony conviction. The trial proceedings revealed further details of the night of the murder. A witness testified that Vaughn, also known as 'Bean,' knocked on the door and asked to speak with her sister. After the sister and Vaughn went outside, Myles also went outside. The witness then stated that Vaughn kicked the door in, ran upstairs with a gun, engaged in a verbal altercation with Myles, and shot him. Another witness's child also identified 'Bean' as the person who killed 'Greg'. Vaughn was sentenced on November 15, 2018.
