On a tragic Easter Sunday in Baltimore, Maryland, the life of 28-year-old Shahidah Barnes was cut short in a devastating act of violence. Pregnant with her second child, Barnes was found in a parked car outside a local hospital, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite medical efforts, neither she nor her unborn baby could be saved.
The heartbreaking events of April 16, 2017, began to unfold earlier that day following a family function.
An argument reportedly took place between Barnes and her 34-year-old husband, Deron Barnes. Subsequently, police were called to the couple's home after reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered blood and shell casings, but no victim. A search was initiated, and a police helicopter eventually located the car in the hospital parking lot with Shahidah Barnes inside.
The investigation quickly identified Deron Barnes as the suspect in his wife's murder. Authorities reported that after the shooting, Deron contacted family members and confessed to having shot his wife. The search for him concluded later that same evening when his body was discovered in Baltimore County with traumatic injuries. While Baltimore County police initially classified his death as suspicious, Baltimore City police stated their belief that it was a suicide.
