A college student is shot execution-style in the early morning hours In the early morning hours of March 2, 1996, the life of 23-year-old Jody LeCornu was tragically cut short in a parking lot in Baltimore, Maryland. A college student at Towson University, she was found inside her car with a fatal gunshot wound to her back. The case, which has remained unsolved for decades, began after Jody had spent the evening out, first at the Mount Washington Tavern and later making a purchase at the Curb Shoppe Bar & Grill.
For reasons that remain unclear, she then drove to the Drumcastle Shopping Center and parked her car.
While she was seated in her vehicle, a man approached her. It is unknown if there was an exchange of words, but the encounter ended when the man fired a single shot into her car, striking her in the back. Despite her severe injury, Jody managed to drive her Honda across York Road to another shopping center parking lot. The assailant followed her in a white BMW. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect reach into Jody’s car after it had stopped. It is believed he took something from the vehicle, though what that item was has never been determined. Her purse was never recovered. The man then fled the scene, driving south on York Road.
To this day, no arrests have been made in connection with Jody LeCornu's murder. The suspect was described by witnesses as a Black male with a stocky build, wearing a camouflage-style or green army coat. Investigators were able to lift fingerprints from both the interior and exterior of Jody's car, but these have not led to a suspect. The case remains an active investigation with the Baltimore County Police Department's Cold Case Squad.
Jody's identical twin sister, Jenny Carrieri, has tirelessly advocated for justice for her sister over the years. She has put up billboards to bring attention to the case and has spoken to the media numerous times, hoping to unearth new leads. Carrieri believes that someone has information that could finally solve the mystery of her sister's death and has pleaded for them to come forward. Despite the passage of time, the family continues to seek answers and closure in this haunting and unresolved case.
