In the early morning hours of September 16, 2016, a tragedy unfolded on the streets of Baltimore that cut a life short. Crystal Edmonds, a 32-year-old Black transgender woman, was found on a sidewalk in the 3600 block of Fairview Avenue with a gunshot wound to the back of her head. The call came in to police at approximately 3:18 a.m., a time when the city was cloaked in darkness. Responders rushed her to a local hospital, but her injuries were too severe, and she died a few hours later.
