In the early morning hours of November 25, 2023, the life of 20-year-old Eniyah Smith, a Black female, was tragically cut short in a double shooting in Southwest Baltimore. The incident, which also claimed the life of 21-year-old Charles Johnson, unfolded around 5:05 a.m. in the 300 block of Chapel Gate Lane. Responding officers discovered both Smith and Johnson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts and their transport to a local hospital, both were pronounced dead.
Eniyah, known affectionately as 'Niyah,' was a mother, and Charles Johnson was the father of her child. She was a graduate of Carver High School and had obtained her childcare license, working as a teacher. Those who knew her described a young woman with a radiant smile and infectious energy who loved creating videos with her daughter, spending time with family and friends, and had a passion for makeup and online shopping. Her life with Johnson, whom she had known since middle school, was a partnership that had blossomed into a family.
The Baltimore Police Department is actively investigating the double homicide. To date, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as the community mourns the loss of two young lives. Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing justice for Eniyah Smith and Charles Johnson.
