In the early morning hours of September 24, 2017, a party in a College Park, Maryland apartment took a tragic turn, ending the life of 24-year-old Rogelio Sierra Duran. The gathering, held in an apartment on Cherry Hill Road, was disrupted by an argument that escalated into violence. It was during this altercation that gunshots were fired, fatally wounding Sierra Duran, a resident of Silver Spring.
Police responded to the scene at the Seven Springs Apartments complex at approximately 5:25 a.m. to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where Rogelio Sierra Duran was pronounced dead. The second man sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening and survived the incident. Investigators quickly determined that the shooting stemmed from a dispute that occurred during the party. None of the individuals involved were students at the nearby University of Maryland.
Within a short period, authorities identified a suspect in the fatal shooting. Davie Serpas, a 21-year-old from College Park, was taken into custody in Washington, D.C. He was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder in connection with the death of Rogelio Sierra Duran. Following his arrest, Serpas was held in the District of Columbia, awaiting extradition to Prince George's County to face the charges against him. The investigation revealed that Serpas and the victims were all present at the party when the argument broke out, leading to the deadly confrontation.
