Ray Glasglow, a 17-year-old Black male, was a promising two-sport athlete at Baltimore City College High School, where he was the captain of the lacrosse team. On the evening of May 5, 2018, his life was tragically cut short in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity. Glasglow was sitting in a parked car with three friends on Eden Street in Southeast Baltimore when a gunman approached and opened fire. He was struck by the gunfire and died from his injuries.
An 18-year-old friend in the car with him was also wounded in the shooting, while two other occupants were unharmed. Authorities have stated they do not believe anyone in the vehicle was the intended target.
The investigation into Glasglow's death led to the arrest of three men: Shawn Little, Eric Jackson, and Bradley Mitchell. The motive for the shooting is believed to have been retaliation for a robbery that had occurred weeks earlier, with the suspects mistakenly targeting the car Glasglow and his friends were in. The suspects were reportedly in a white Nissan Altima, which they used to make a U-turn before parking behind the vehicle carrying Glasglow.
The legal proceedings for the three suspects have followed different paths. Shawn Little ultimately pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in September 2022. In a turn of events, the charges against Eric Jackson were dropped in February 2019 after a judge denied a request to postpone his trial. However, his case was not over. Jackson was later acquitted of a murder charge but faced a retrial on a weapons charge after the jury could not reach a unanimous decision. The third suspect, Bradley Mitchell, was found not guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. The community, including his family, friends, and pastor, mourned the loss of a young man known for his love of God, his family, and his church. His funeral was held on May 12, 2018.
