In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Silver Spring, Maryland, a dispute inside a 7-Eleven escalated into a fatal encounter that ended the life of 27-year-old Deon Christopher McDonald. The male victim was a resident of Hyattsville.
On September 23, 2018, at approximately 3:52 a.m., officers responded to a report of an assault at the 7-Eleven located on Georgia Avenue. According to police, McDonald was making a purchase when he became involved in a dispute with the store clerk.
An armed, 44-year-old on-duty security guard intervened in the argument.
The initial confrontation inside the convenience store became physical and spilled out onto the sidewalk. It was there that the security guard discharged his weapon, striking McDonald. When police and paramedics arrived, they found McDonald unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite their life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
