On the morning of October 23, 2018, a violent altercation that began on Old Silver Hill Road in Maryland escalated into a rolling shootout on the busy Suitland Parkway. The incident resulted in the death of 23-year-old Jerome Robinson, a Black male from Southeast, D.C. The events unfolded around 9:15 a.m. when a dispute between occupants of two vehicles turned deadly.
As the two vehicles sped onto the eastbound lanes of the parkway, gunfire was exchanged.
At one point, Robinson, who was reportedly armed, got out of his car and attempted to flee across the parkway. He was then struck multiple times by gunfire. Witnesses described a harrowing scene, with one observer stating they saw a passenger in the pursuing vehicle firing what looked like a 'machine gun,' with some sources specifying it may have been an AK-47 assault rifle. In total, witnesses reported hearing approximately 20 gunshots. The suspects' vehicle was described as a white or silver mid-sized sedan.
After Robinson was shot, the assailants' car reportedly made a U-turn on the median and fled the area. Several other vehicles were struck by bullets during the chaos, but no one else was injured. Jerome Robinson was transported to Prince George's Hospital Center, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m. The United States Park Police launched a homicide investigation and recovered a pistol that Robinson had been carrying. In the immediate aftermath, authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspects, as none had been identified at the time.
