In the quiet town of Sykesville, Maryland, the life of 56-year-old Robert Mark 'Bob' Gurecki, a dedicated businessman, was tragically cut short on the evening of Friday, May 3, 2019. The following day, a Saturday, Gurecki was discovered deceased inside his office at Retro Environmental, Inc. on Enterprise Street. An investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff's Office was promptly launched, revealing that Gurecki had died from a single gunshot wound in what was being investigated as a homicide.
At the time of his death, he was the president of the company, a business focused on asbestos and lead abatement.
The initial stages of the investigation yielded no immediate suspects, leaving Gurecki's family in a state of agonizing uncertainty. His mother, Carole Rudis, made emotional public pleas for any information that could lead to the killer's capture, expressing her deep grief and the void left by her son's sudden and violent death.
