A Black/African American man, 25-year-old Dana Brown, was fatally shot in Baltimore, Maryland, on the night of October 24, 2019. The incident occurred in the 2200 block of East Biddle Street, where police responded to a report of a shooting and found Brown with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the murder of Dana Brown led Baltimore police to identify a suspect through an anonymous tip received
on November 4, 2019. The tipster named Davon Mayer-Lee as the individual responsible for the shooting and provided his address. Homicide detectives followed up on this lead and presented a photo array containing a picture of Mayer-Lee to a witness of the shooting. The witness positively identified Mayer-Lee as the person they saw shoot Dana Brown.
Following the witness identification, an arrest warrant was issued for Davon Mayer-Lee. He was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder, along with firearm-related offenses, including use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence and possession of a regulated firearm by a prohibited person. The case proceeded to trial in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
At trial, Davon Mayer-Lee was found guilty by a jury of first-degree murder and the associated firearm charges. In August 2022, he was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Dana Brown, with an additional 20 years, the first five to be served without the possibility of parole, for the charge of use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence. Mayer-Lee later appealed his conviction, but the Appellate Court of Maryland affirmed the judgment of the circuit court.
