In the summer of 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening calm in a Northwest Baltimore neighborhood, leaving two men fatally wounded. One of the victims was Lionel Yancy, a 49-year-old male. The shooting occurred on the evening of Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Police were dispatched to the 5300 block of Winner Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. following reports of the shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene.
Lionel Yancy was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the location by medics. Alongside him, another man, aged 38, had also been shot. This second victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead the following morning.
In the immediate aftermath of the double homicide, Baltimore Police homicide detectives took charge of the investigation. They canvassed the area for evidence and appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the killings. Authorities urged anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward and contact the homicide unit or to provide anonymous tips through the Metro Crime Stoppers line.
As of now, there have been no publicly announced arrests in connection with the murders of Lionel Yancy and the second victim. The case remains an open investigation, and information regarding any potential suspects has not been released by law enforcement officials.
