On a summer evening in Rosedale, Maryland, 31-year-old Trevor Hamlet, a male, was fatally shot in the parking lot of his home on Kelbourne Road on July 28, 2020. The events that culminated in this tragic incident began earlier in the day at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore City. Hamlet, along with his brother Trent Alexander, his girlfriend Vanesia Gaskins, and a friend, Casey Pulley, had spent the afternoon at the hotel's swimming pool.
An altercation erupted between Hamlet's group and another group of people by the pool, which included an individual named Donwin Brooks. The dispute escalated into a physical fight, during which threats were allegedly made against Hamlet and his friends.
Later that evening, after leaving the hotel and making a stop at a liquor store, Hamlet and his companions returned to the 2000 block of Kelbourne Road. Shortly after they arrived, at approximately 7 p.m., an unknown assailant opened fire on them in the parking lot. Trevor Hamlet was struck by multiple gunshots, including one to the head and two to his lower chest. Another man with him, Casey Pulley, was also injured in the shooting but was expected to survive. Emergency services were called, and despite efforts to save him, Trevor Hamlet was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:57 p.m.
The investigation into the murder led detectives to identify Lateef Maple as a suspect. Following a jury trial in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, Maple was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in connection with the death of Trevor Hamlet. The evidence presented during the trial linked Maple to the crime, and he later appealed his conviction. The appellate court affirmed the judgment of the circuit court.
