In a tragic and senseless act of violence, 55-year-old Christopher Walker, a male resident of Rosedale, Maryland, was fatally shot and killed in his own home. The harrowing events unfolded on the evening of October 11, 2021, when Baltimore County Police were dispatched to a residence in the 7400 block of Plainview Road shortly after 9 p.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered both Christopher Walker and his 24-year-old son, Justin Walker, deceased at the scene from gunshot wounds.
The initial investigation left the community and neighbors in a state of shock and uncertainty, as police released few details about the circumstances surrounding the double homicide.
The investigation into the brutal slayings eventually revealed a chilling sequence of events that began earlier that day. Justin Walker, accompanied by a friend, had offered a ride to two men, later identified as Ameer Gittens and Derrick Jamison, from a convenience store in Rosedale. This act of kindness took a horrifying turn when Gittens and Jamison produced handguns, initiating a terrifying crime spree. They forced Justin and his friend to strip naked and robbed them of their wallets and cellphones. The friend was then bound with duct tape and forced into the trunk of Justin's car.
The assailants then drove Justin to his home on Plainview Road with the intention of robbing his father, Christopher. Upon entering the residence, Gittens and Jamison shot Christopher Walker eight times. In a final act of brutality, they then shot his son Justin once in the head. Tragically, Christopher's 83-year-old mother was present and witnessed the horrific murders of her son and grandson, and was even confronted at gunpoint by the suspects before they fled the scene in Justin's car. The friend who had been abducted was later released, still unclothed, in a residential area of Baltimore City.
Vigorous detective work, including the analysis of video evidence from multiple locations and the discovery of the suspects' fingerprints in Justin Walker's car, led investigators to Ameer Gittens and Derrick Jamison. Less than a month after the murders, Gittens was apprehended, and at the time of his arrest, was in possession of one of the murder weapons. Both Gittens and Jamison were subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder, armed carjacking, home invasion, kidnapping, armed robbery, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime. In April 2023, a jury convicted both men on all charges. They were later sentenced to consecutive life terms in prison without the possibility of parole, a sentence described by a Maryland Circuit Court judge as fitting for a 'reign of terror.'
