In a tragic and senseless act of violence, 24-year-old Justin Walker, a male from Rosedale, Maryland, lost his life on October 11, 2021. The evening began with a seemingly innocent gesture of kindness, as Justin and a friend agreed to give two men a ride from a local convenience store. This decision, however, set in motion a horrific chain of events that would end in a double homicide.
The two passengers, later identified as Ameer Gittens and Derrick Jamison, revealed themselves to be
armed robbers. Brandishing handguns, they forced Justin and his friend to strip and hand over their wallets and cellphones. To further terrorize their victims, they bound Justin's friend with duct tape and forced him into the trunk of the car. Their motive extended beyond simple robbery; they coerced Justin into driving to his home on Plainview Road with the intention of robbing his father, Christopher Walker.
Upon arriving at the Walker residence, the situation escalated dramatically. Gittens and Jamison entered the home and opened fire on Justin's 55-year-old father, shooting him eight times. In a final, brutal act, they then shot Justin once in the head. The two men fled the scene in Justin Walker's car, leaving behind a scene of unimaginable horror. Justin's friend, who had been trapped in the trunk, was later released unclothed in a residential area of Baltimore City.
The ensuing investigation by the Baltimore County Police Homicide Detectives was swift and thorough. Utilizing video surveillance from multiple locations and forensic evidence, they were able to identify Gittens and Jamison as the perpetrators. Fingerprints belonging to both men were discovered in Justin's vehicle. Less than a month after the murders, Ameer Gittens was apprehended, and at the time of his arrest, he was in possession of one of the firearms used in the killings.
Ameer Gittens and Derrick Jamison were subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder, in addition to charges of armed carjacking, home invasion, kidnapping, and armed robbery. In April 2023, a jury found both men guilty on all counts. A judge, referring to their actions as a 'reign of terror,' sentenced both Gittens and Jamison to consecutive life terms in prison without the possibility of parole, ensuring that they would be held accountable for the devastating loss of two innocent lives.
