On the evening of September 24, 2020, a shooting incident in the Friendship Heights neighborhood tragically cut short the life of 20-year-old Tavon Brown. Responding to a report of gunfire at approximately 7:39 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived at the 5200 block of Western Avenue, Northwest, to find Brown unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services rushed Brown to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The investigation into the shooting also revealed a second male victim who was located in Montgomery County, Maryland, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound from the same incident.
For over a year, the case remained under investigation. Then, on December 22, 2021, a significant development occurred when detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch arrested a suspect in connection with Tavon Brown's death. Authorities identified the suspect as 43-year-old Michael Tymas of Northeast, D.C. Tymas was subsequently charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting.
