In the early morning hours of January 4, 2021, the life of 40-year-old Raymundo Estrella Moreno was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting that occurred at the intersection of Riverdale Road and 54th Avenue in Riverdale, Maryland. A male taxi driver, Moreno was on duty when the incident unfolded. The initial investigation by the Riverdale Park Police officers, who responded to the scene around 1:30 a.m., revealed that Moreno was the victim of an attempted carjacking.
Suffering from
multiple gunshot wounds, Raymundo Estrella Moreno was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit promptly took over the investigation to uncover the circumstances that led to this senseless act of violence and to bring the person or persons responsible to justice. The preliminary findings suggested that the suspect shot Moreno during the course of the carjacking. It was also determined that the victim and the suspect did not know each other.
Through their investigation, detectives identified 24-year-old Brian Keith Peters of Southeast Washington, D.C., as the primary suspect in the murder of Raymundo Estrella Moreno. At the time he was identified, Peters was already in custody in Washington, D.C., on charges unrelated to the Riverdale homicide. The Prince George's County Police Department announced that Peters had been charged with first and second-degree murder, carjacking, and robbery in connection with Moreno's death. The vehicle that was the subject of the carjacking attempt was also recovered by law enforcement. Authorities have not publicly released information regarding the outcome of the legal proceedings, including any trial, conviction, or sentencing for Brian Keith Peters in relation to this case.
