In May of 2021, the life of 20-year-old Kayshaun Daly was tragically cut short in Riverdale, Maryland. Friends of the young man made the grim discovery, finding him unresponsive inside a residence in the 6700 block of Oakland Avenue. He had been fatally shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe Daly was asleep in his bed when he was killed.
His body was found two to three days after the shooting, and a handgun was discovered on the bed near him.
The investigation into the death of the male victim soon focused on his girlfriend, Norma Elizabeth Rivas Villacorta, who was 23 years old at the time. Family and friends described the couple's relationship as 'turbulent.' In the days following the shooting, Rivas Villacorta fled the United States, boarding a flight from Dulles International Airport to El Salvador. A family member had purchased a round-trip ticket for her, but she did not take the return flight. She reportedly told this family member that she could not come back to the United States because her life was in danger.
An arrest warrant for Rivas Villacorta was obtained by the Prince George's County Police in September 2021. She was apprehended in May 2022 upon her return to the United States at Washington Dulles International Airport. She was charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as related charges, in connection with Kayshaun Daly's death. Following her arrest, she was held in custody in Loudoun County, Virginia, awaiting extradition to Prince George's County to face the charges against her.
