In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday evening in Riverdale, Maryland, a shooting shattered the peace and left a community in mourning. Forty-year-old Curtis Mosley of Hyattsville became the victim of a fatal act of violence that would quickly lead to an arrest. On June 15, 2019, at approximately 7:45 pm, police responded to the 6000 block of Patterson Street after reports of a shooting.
There, they discovered Mosley suffering from gunshot wounds.
Though grievously injured, Mosley was able to communicate with witnesses in the immediate aftermath, identifying his assailant as James Jacob Young. Emergency services transported Mosley to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and died several hours later. The information provided by Mosley in his final moments proved crucial for investigators, pointing them directly toward a suspect he knew.
The investigation swiftly led to the arrest of 39-year-old James Jacob Young of Temple Hills. He was taken into custody in Washington, D.C., and subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges. While police confirmed that Mosley and Young were acquainted, a definitive motive for the shooting was not immediately released. Following his arrest, Young was held in custody in D.C., awaiting extradition to Prince George's County to face the charges brought against him for the death of Curtis Mosley.
