In the late hours of a Saturday evening in Riverdale, Maryland, the life of 14-year-old Marcus Vines was tragically cut short. On May 29, 2010, at approximately 9:37 p.m., the young male was discovered bleeding at an Exxon gas station situated in the 6600 block of Riverdale Road, near the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Emergency services rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly. Within two days, on Monday, May 31, 2010, an arrest was made in connection with the homicide. Prince George's County police took 18-year-old Jeremy Quintin Proctor of Hyattsville into custody in Lanham. Following his arrest, Proctor was formally charged with the first-degree murder of Marcus Vines. The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public by the authorities. The teenage victim resided on Varnum Street in Landover Hills at the time of his untimely death.
