In the early morning hours of June 25, 2018, the life of 36-year-old Oscar Rene-Espinal was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire in Riverdale Heights, Maryland. At approximately 7:15 a.m., law enforcement officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 5400 block of Carters Lane. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Rene-Espinal lying unresponsive in the roadway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Emergency medical personnel quickly transported him to
a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Oscar Rene-Espinal succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit promptly launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
In the days following the incident, detectives worked to piece together the events that led to Mr. Rene-Espinal's death, actively seeking to identify a suspect or suspects and determine a motive for the shooting. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest in the case.
