In the summer of 2017, a life was tragically cut short in Riverdale Park, Maryland. On the evening of July 26th, 26-year-old Cesar Bazan, a male resident of Landover Hills, was involved in a dispute that quickly escalated to fatal violence. An argument broke out in the 5500 block of 54th Avenue, and in the ensuing altercation, Bazan was shot. Riverdale Park Police responded to a report of the shooting at approximately 8:30 p.m. and discovered Bazan outside with a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved too severe, and he died a short time later. The suspects fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit took charge of the investigation into Bazan's death. Their efforts soon led to the identification of multiple suspects. Within weeks, authorities had made three arrests in connection with the fatal shooting. The suspects were identified as 19-year-old Marquise Dinkins of Washington D.C., 30-year-old Charles Howard Davis of Bladensburg, and 21-year-old Stephen Strand of Chillum.
All three men were charged with first and second-degree murder for their alleged roles in the death of Cesar Bazan. Dinkins was initially taken into custody in the District of Columbia and awaited extradition to Prince George's County. Davis and Strand were taken into the custody of the Prince George's County Department of Corrections and held on a no-bond status. The preliminary investigation suggested that the shooting stemmed from the argument between the suspects and the victim.
