On the evening of February 19, 2021, tragedy struck at the intersection of East Capitol Street and Yacht Place in Capitol Heights, Maryland, when officers responded to what was initially reported as a vehicle collision at approximately 8:50 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene inside a car where two young men had been shot. Twenty-three-year-old Octavaughn Dickerson of Washington D.C.
was found deceased inside the vehicle, alongside 19-year-old Anthony Bernard Hunt, also from Washington D.C. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.
A third adult male was also a victim in the shooting and was located outside of the car with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into the double homicide.
Investigators are actively looking into the circumstances that led to the fatal shootings. While the motive remains under investigation, detectives have stated that they do not believe the incident was a random act of violence. Authorities have been examining evidence and conducting interviews to piece together the events of that fatal Friday night. At this time, no information regarding any arrests or identified suspects has been publicly released as the investigation continues.
