On February 27, 2022, 58-year-old Michael N. Hawkins, a Black/African American male, was found deceased in an apartment in the Temple Hills area of Maryland under circumstances that immediately suggested a violent end to his life. The discovery prompted a swift investigation by local law enforcement, who would soon confirm that Hawkins was the victim of a homicide, having sustained fatal injuries.
Authorities were called to an apartment on St. Barnabas Road in Suitland, a community bordering Temple Hills, on the afternoon of February 27th. Inside, they discovered Michael Hawkins unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial stages of the investigation focused on determining a motive and identifying any potential suspects.
The investigation into Hawkins's death led Prince George's County Police to identify 21-year-old Malique Harden of Suitland as the suspect. According to the preliminary investigation, it is believed that Harden shot and killed Hawkins during a robbery at the apartment. In April 2022, Malique Harden was arrested and taken into custody. He has been charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges, and is being held without bond.
