In the late afternoon of January 22, 2023, a tragedy unfolded in the parking lot of the Southern Avenue Metro Station in Temple Hills, Maryland, forever altering the lives of a local family. Bacari Colvin, a 19-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot at approximately 4:45 p.m. Despite the immediate response and life-saving efforts of first responders, Colvin was pronounced dead at the scene, his life cut short in a senseless act of violence that sent ripples of grief and concern through the community.
The Metro Transit Police immediately launched an intensive investigation, searching for a suspect who was seen fleeing the area shortly after the shooting. Their efforts led them to 17-year-old D'hani Rispus of Washington, D.C. In a swift turn of events, Rispus was apprehended at his school, a stark reminder of the youthfulness of those involved in such a devastating incident.
