In the early evening of September 26, 2021, a dispute in a parking lot in Temple Hills, Maryland, escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving a young man's life cut short. Davon Graves, a 23-year-old male from the nearby community of Suitland, was found unresponsive by patrol officers who had been called to the 4500 block of St. Barnabas Road around 7:00 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Graves was suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Davon Graves pointed to an argument that had taken place shortly before the shooting. This altercation is believed to have been the catalyst for the deadly violence that ensued.
In the days following the incident, detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit worked to identify those involved and piece together the events that led to the fatal encounter in the parking lot.
Less than two weeks after the shooting, an arrest was made in connection with the murder of Davon Graves. Authorities took 26-year-old Derrick Edwards of Temple Hills into custody. He was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges, for his alleged involvement in the death of Graves. Following his arrest, Edwards was held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
