In the early morning hours of August 10, 2022, Nesredin Esleiman, a 55-year-old man from Silver Spring, was working as a rideshare driver in Temple Hills, Maryland. At approximately 6:20 a.m., officers from the Prince George's County Police Department were dispatched to the 5400 block of Chesterfield Drive for a welfare check. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Esleiman inside his vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Nesredin Esleiman, a husband and father of three, quickly determined that he was the victim of a homicide that occurred during an attempted robbery while he was on duty as an Uber driver. Detectives from the Homicide Unit diligently pursued leads, and their investigation led them to a suspect, 21-year-old Kiayon Strowbridge of Temple Hills.
According to charging documents, the investigation revealed that a friend of Strowbridge had ordered the Uber ride for him that morning.
This individual later informed police that Strowbridge had intended to commit a robbery. When officers executed a search warrant at Strowbridge's residence, he attempted to flee but was apprehended. During his arrest, he reportedly uttered, 'I'm going to jail'. A search of a vehicle connected to Strowbridge uncovered a handgun that investigators believe was the weapon used in the murder, as it was consistent with a cartridge casing found at the crime scene.
Kiayon Strowbridge was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges, in connection with the fatal shooting of Nesredin Esleiman. He is currently being held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. The community and Mr. Esleiman's family were left to mourn the loss of a man described as a devoted family man who was working to provide for his loved ones.
