On the evening of April 7, 2022, a burst of gunfire echoed through an East Baltimore neighborhood, tragically ending the life of 20-year-old Jerric Michie. That Thursday, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a ShotSpotter alert drew Baltimore Police Department officers to the 600 block of North Milton Street. There, they found Michie suffering from numerous gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to Johns Hopkins Hospital but was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival.
The violence of that evening was not confined to a single victim. Moments after Michie was discovered, patrol officers at the intersection of Montford and Jefferson Streets were approached by a 27-year-old man who had also been shot. His injuries were considered non-life-threatening, and he was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
The investigation into the shooting that occurred in the 2400 block of East Monument Street eventually led to a suspect. On May 27, 2023, just over a year after Michie’s death, members of the Eastern District Action Team arrested 27-year-old Devin Wallace in the 500 block of North Glover Street. Wallace was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and various handgun violations.
In a later development, it was reported that Devin Wallace accepted a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to firearm possession with a felony conviction. It was also noted that investigators do not believe the shots fired by Wallace were the ones that killed Jerric Michie. Wallace was sentenced to a seven-year prison term, with the first five years to be served without the possibility of parole. Information about any other suspects in the death of Jerric Michie has not been released.
