In April 2022, the Essex, Maryland community was shaken by the tragic death of Bradyna Henson, a 33-year-old Black / African American woman. On the evening of April 14th, Baltimore County Police officers conducted a wellness check at her residence on Windjammer Court, leading to the discovery of her body, which showed signs of significant trauma. The investigation into her death quickly transitioned into a homicide case.
The prime suspect was identified as 29-year-old Tavon Howard, with
whom Henson had been in a tumultuous relationship that she had recently ended. Surveillance footage from the morning of April 13, 2022, captured Howard at Henson's home. It was later determined that he had shot and killed her, leaving her to be found by her 14-year-old son. The day after Henson's body was discovered, Howard was apprehended following a police chase through Baltimore. A search of his vehicle uncovered the weapon used in the murder.
The subsequent legal proceedings revealed a history of abuse and conflict in the relationship between Henson and Howard. Evidence presented during the trial highlighted instances of Howard's escalating aggression, including damaging her property and making threats against her safety. In June 2023, a Baltimore County jury convicted Tavon Howard of first-degree premeditated murder and weapons offenses. Citing the callous nature of the crime, the judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
