In the autumn of 2022, a devastating act of violence shattered the community of Waldorf, Maryland, claiming the life of 19-year-old Aden Christopher Garcia. On October 23, while seated in a car on Albermarle Place, Garcia was shot multiple times in what investigators would later determine was not a random attack. He was driven to a hospital in Prince George's County, but tragically succumbed to his injuries the next day.
The Charles County Sheriff's Office launched a thorough investigation that led to the identification of two suspects. In November 2022, authorities announced they were searching for 22-year-old Jontez Davon Dorsey of Waldorf, who they believed was the shooter. Dorsey was apprehended in December of that year and charged with murder. He was subsequently ordered to be held at the Charles County Detention Center without bond.
The investigation continued, leading to a second arrest in August 2023. Ricardo Kevon Colbert-Lyles, 22, also from Waldorf, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and other related offenses. Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a planned drug transaction that went awry. According to reports, after the transaction failed, Colbert-Lyles and another suspect followed Garcia, which culminated in the fatal shooting. In July 2025, Ricardo Kevon Colbert-Lyles, then 24, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
