On a tragic Friday morning, June 9, 2023, the life of 24-year-old Deangelo C’Quan Beale, a Black male, was cut short in Waldorf, Maryland. The day began with an argument at a Washington, D.C. nightclub, an altercation that would have fatal consequences. After leaving the club, Beale was allegedly robbed at gunpoint and abducted by a group of individuals.
The assailants then drove Beale to his own apartment complex on Lake Drive in Waldorf.
Upon arrival, some of the suspects entered his apartment, holding his girlfriend at gunpoint. Meanwhile, Beale remained in the vehicle with two of his abductors. In a desperate act of self-defense, Beale managed to get ahold of a firearm and shot one of the men, 22-year-old Marquise Deontae Jackson. Hearing the gunshot, the suspects inside the apartment rushed out and fatally shot Beale in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
Following the shooting, the suspects fled in Beale’s vehicle, dropping the wounded Jackson off at a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Charles County Sheriff's Office quickly launched an investigation into what was now a double homicide.
The investigation led to the arrests of several individuals. On August 31, 2023, authorities apprehended 18-year-old Desmond Evans, 23-year-old Kevon Jackson, 19-year-old Ramel Henderson, and a 16-year-old male. During these arrests, law enforcement recovered numerous firearms and other evidence linking them to the crime. Another suspect, 17-year-old Nijuan Wilson, was also taken into custody.
In a significant development, on May 24, 2024, Nijuan Wilson pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for his role in Deangelo Beale's death. Subsequently, on June 6, 2024, Wilson was sentenced to life in prison with all but 30 years suspended. He will also serve five years of supervised probation upon his release.
