John Ercell Staton, aged 54, tragically lost his life on December 10, 2019, in Waldorf, Maryland. Staton was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Smallwood Village Shopping Center. According to reports, the incident occurred around 3:09 p.m. when Staton and the suspect, Fred Odell Scott, were involved in an altercation. During this confrontation, Scott produced a handgun and shot Staton multiple times. Staton was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
